Best 5G mobile phone deals

Samsung Galaxy S20 5G – was £899, now £749 (17% off)

We liked Fast processor, beautiful display

We didn’t like Fingerprint scanner can be slow

Samsung has put some of its flashiest specs into the S20 range, but this is the model to buy if you’re after 5G. Its 6.2-inch AMOLED display is equipped with the same technology as Samsung’s 4K TVs, so it should be perfect for watching your favourite shows on the move. If you’d like an even bigger display, we’ve also spotted a good deal on the Samsung S20+ 5G. It’s currently £849 at Laptops Direct, which is 15% off its usual price.

Samsung Galaxy S10 5G – was £700, now £600 (14% off)

We liked Six cameras in total, edge-to-edge display

We didn’t like Selfie camera isn’t the best

It’s not just 5G that makes this phone stand out – it has a massive 6.7-inch AMOLED display, four rear and two front cameras, and it’s waterproof, too. Now it’s more than a year old, we’re seeing the staggering launch price start to come down slightly, so it’s a good choice if you’re looking to bag a bargain ahead of Black Friday.

Motorola Moto G 5G Plus – was £300, now £270 (10% off)

We liked Bright display, user-friendly interface

We didn’t like Speaker sounds a bit dull

With its powerful processor, hefty 5,000mAh battery and four rear cameras, this budget-friendly phone gives top-of-the-range models a run for their money. The massive 6.7-inch display won’t be for everyone, but if you’re after a phablet-style 5G phone without the premium price, this model should be on your shortlist.

Oppo Find X2 Lite – was £399, now £369 (8% off)

We liked Charges quickly, responsive touchscreen

We didn’t like External speaker isn’t great

At the cheaper end of the market the discounts start looking less impressive, although the prices are really tempting when you consider that the average cost of a 5G phone we’ve tested is £800. It has the large display we’ve come to expect from Oppo phones (6.4-inches), plus four rear cameras and 128GB of storage. If you use wired headphones, you’ll be pleased to find a socket that’s often missing on high-end phones.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G – was £299, now £289 (3% off)

We liked Fast processor, nice display

We didn’t like Face scanner struggles in dark rooms

Not the biggest discount, but this Xiaomi was a great deal to start with. This is about as cheap as you can currently get a 5G phone for, with few compromises on features. It’s powered by the fast Snapdragon 765G processor, there are four cameras on the back and it has a large 6.6-inch AMOLED display perfect for gaming. You can’t extend the 64GB storage, so if you need a lot of memory you should look elsewhere.

How to find the best mobile phone deals

Buying a phone outright, particularly a top-of-the-range model, can be a huge outlay. Knowing when and where to look can help you bag a bargain. Our top tips are:

  • Check retailer websites such as Amazon, Argos and Curry’s PC World first. They’re more likely to have discounts than manufacturer sites.
  • Always double check what you’re actually getting, especially on marketplaces. Some models on Amazon and eBay may be refurbished, or EU versions of UK devices, which could affect warranty claims.
  • When a brand launches a new phone, its last range usually gets discounted. Look for the penultimate Samsung Galaxy in April, Apple iPhone in September and Google Pixel in October.
