We’ve just tested cheap nappies from discount supermarkets Aldi and Lidl to find out how effective their absorption is and whether they’ll keep your baby dry.
One of them scored 95% making it our highest scoring Best Buy. It got the full five stars in our leakage protection and wetness retention tests, and absorbs liquid quickly even when the nappy is full.
However the other scored just 61%. It’s slow to absorb and lets liquid leak out. It also struggles to hold wetness inside once it’s been absorbed.

What do Aldi and Lidl nappies offer?
Aldi says its nappies have an ultra-dry air system with a fast absorbing core to keep your baby dry for up to 12 hours. They’re designed to be soft and breathable with a slim design for free movement. The nappies are available in sizes one to six, and there are plus sizes for extra absorbency.

Lidl claims its Lupilu nappies have magical air tubes with three absorbent channels in the core to keep your baby dry for up to 12 hours. They have soft fleece and an elasticated waistband for a comfortable fit. Its nappy range covers sizes one through to six.

How much do Aldi and Lidl nappies cost?
The cost of Aldi and Lidl nappies varies depending on the size you choose. Aldi nappies tend to be slightly cheaper though.

How do parents rate Aldi and Lidl nappies?
In March 2020, we asked more than 1,000 parents to rate the nappies they use on absorbency, comfort, ease of use, fit and value for money.
We collected ratings for 14 nappy brands including Aldi and Lidl, as well as more expensive options like Pampers.
The highest rated brand achieved an overall customer score of 86%, while the worst got just 60%.
