Cybex, Silver Cross or Bugaboo – which pushchair should you buy in 2021?

If you need a new pushchair for the new year, we’ve recently tested a range of models from popular high-end brands including Bugaboo, Cybex and Silver Cross.

Read on to find out what these pushchairs might offer, or head straight to our pushchair reviews to find out how they scored in our tests.

Silver Cross Pioneer 2020, £795

Silver Cross Pioneer

This travel-system-compatible pram and pushchair was updated last year with new wheels, lighter tyres and chrome detailing. It’s also lighter overall.

It’s got plenty of features that parents like, including a reversible seat, large shopping basket and adjustable seat recline and leg rest.

Find out if the Pioneer is really as light as claimed, and what our panel of parents and experts thought about its manoeuvrability, in our Silver Cross Pioneer 2020 review.

Silver Cross Wave 2020, from £995

Silver Cross Wave double

This is a single-to-double pushchair designed for families with plans to grow. Like other Silver Cross pushchairs, it comes with a carrycot as part of the price bundle, but additional seats and carrycots are extra.

As with the Pioneer, it was relaunched last year with a lighter chassis and updated seat unit and wheels. It can take a range of different attachments (seat unit, carrycot and car seat) in various configurations to suit the user.

When we tested the original Wave in 2017, the pushchair was a Don’t Buy in double mode because the handlebar broke, but it passed all the safety tests as a single pushchair.

Read our review of the Silver Cross Wave 2020 double to find out if it encounters the same problems, and what it’s like to push and use.

Cybex Melio Carbon, £460

Cybex Melio Carbon pushchair

For parents wanting a lightweight pushchair that’s travel-system-compatible, the Melio Carbon could be worth considering.

The manufacturer claims the seat unit reclines far enough to make it suitable from birth (check our review for confirmation of this), which means you could forgo the compatible carrycot (RRP £180).

Read our review of the Cybex Melio Carbon to see if this pushchair provides a smooth and comfortable ride for your baby, and whether it’s easy to fold and carry when needed.

Cybex Eezy S Twist +2, £330

Cybex Eezy S Twist 2

The Twist in the name refers to the fact that parents can twist the seat to face them or the world, without removing it from the chassis and using just one hand.

Like the Melio, the Eezy S Twist is claimed to be suitable from birth thanks to the reclining seat back, but you can also attach a separate carrycot, cocoon and/or car seat if needed.

Bugaboo Bee 6, from £649

Bugaboo Bee 6

The head-turning Bugaboo Bee 6 is the latest iteration of this popular model. Updates include a bigger sun canopy, larger wheels and different seat fabric.

It’s marketed as an urban pushchair and has a range of features including a one-handed fold and seat recline, adjustable handlebar and travel-system compatibility. Our testing checks whether a pushchair has all these features, and includes a panel of parents who try out mechanisms such as the fold or seat recline to see if they really can be done one-handed.

Read our full review of the Bugaboo Bee 6 to discover if it can actually deliver on its promises and features, and what our panel of parents and experts thought of it.
