Product recall: Aptamil Muesli products may contain choking hazard

Aptamil is recalling its baby muesli products as some of them may contain pieces of apple stalks, making them a safety hazard.

The Food Standards Agency says: ‘The presence of the apple stalks presents a choking hazard to babies, making these products unsafe to eat.’

Which Aptamil  Muesli products are being recalled?

This recall covers the following:

Cow & Gate My First Muesli 10+ months

Pack size: 330g
Best-before dates: 13 October 2021, 20 December 2021 and 4 January 2022

Aptamil Oats, Raisin and Apple Bircher Muesli 10+ months

Pack size: 275g
Best-before dates: 27 December 2021 and 16 January 2022

Aptamil Multigrain and Fruit Bircher Muesli 10+ months

Pack size: 275g
Best-before dates: 28 December 2021 and 16 January 2022

The best before dates on these three products vary so follow the guidance and check the date in the ‘Best before’ box underneath the barcode. See photo below for where you should be able to find this information.

It’s worth noting that no other batches of Aptamil cereal, or other Aptamil products, have been identified as a safety risk.


What to do if you’ve bought Aptamil Muesli

If the baby food you’ve bought is one of the products recalled, then don’t attempt to feed it to your baby.

Nutricia says you should return the product to the store you bought it from to receive a full refund. You won’t need a receipt.

Alternatively, you can:

  • Contact Aptamil on 0800 996 1000 or go to the Aptaclub website to speak to someone online.
  • Contact Cow & Gate on 0800 977 8880 or visit the Cow and Gate website if you have concerns.
