Last-minute holiday deals: five top UK seaside cottages and accommodation for May

From a week next to the UK’s best beach for £100 a night, to a farm stay in Snowdonia minutes from the North Wales coastline for under £70, there are still deals available on UK accommodation despite headlines of everything being sold out.

Which? has picked five holiday stays, in or near some of the best towns and villages from our top 100 seaside destinations. Each stay is with companies rated highly by customers in our accommodation and holiday cottage provider surveys, which have good or excellent flexible booking policies. All properties, at the time of writing, still had dates available in May.

Farmhouse flat, Snowdonia National Park, near Beddgelert, £66 per night
Y Wenallt Beddgelert, North Wales

Book for the location rather than the luxury. That said, this flat over a working farmhouse in Snowdonia looks more modern and welcoming than the ‘simple’ accommodation the write-up indicates. There are fields and walks from the front door into Snowdonia National Park, while some of North Wales’ best beaches are under five miles away. For those longing for Italy, Portmeirion is 20 minutes drive by car: find colonnaded villas, Renaissance-domed mansions and an Art Deco lido in this recreation of a small Italian seaside village.

The Bamburgh Bolthole, Bamburgh, Northumberland, £104 per night
The Bamburgh Bolthole

What this flat lacks in outside space, it makes up for in its location. It sits in an area of outstanding natural beauty in Bamburgh, which is regularly rated in the top five best seaside towns by Which? readers. The accommodation, decorated in a nautical theme, is less than a 10-minute walk from Bamburgh’s golden sandy beach, which stretches for three miles, as well as the historic castle. By night, you’ve got plenty of room to cook in the flat’s kitchen, but the few pubs and restaurants of Bamburgh are also just up the street.

Holt House, Holt, Norfolk, £105 per night
Boats on the marshes in Blakeney

This two-bedroom accommodation looks like it’s been finished to a high standard, complete with roll-top bath and log burner. It’s situated in Holt, a Georgian market town, but just five miles away is scenic Blakeney, which was recently ranked in the top 30 seaside towns out of almost 100 by Which? readers. Spend your holiday perusing art galleries, stretching your legs over the sand dunes or looking out for grey seals at Blakeney Point.

Brixham Harbour cottage, Brixham, Devon, £146 per night

Rates on the ‘English Riviera’ will be expensive this summer so this fisherman’s cottage in Brixham is well priced. With a view out to the harbour from one of the bedrooms, you’re just minutes away from  town – as well as the famous fish market. Here you can buy fresh fish to enjoy back in the cottage’s courtyard garden. If you’d prefer to sample the daily catch without having to cook it yourself, then there are plenty of restaurants and cafés to choose from in Brixham, some that look out to the water. Just be aware that to access to the cottage requires climbing steps so it won’t be suitable for all.

Forest Holidays cabin in Deerpark, near Liskeard, Cornwall, from £241 per night
Forest Holidays lodge in Deerpark

These cabins in the Cornish woods vary in price but none can be described as cheap. All, however, come complete with a hot tub. Despite the get-away-from-it-all feel of your woodland and millpond surroundings, there is a restaurant and bar on site. The popular coastal town of Looe is eight miles away, so a day by the seaside is within easy reach. There you can relax on the sandy beach in East Looe, which is overlooked by quaint houses stacked into the hillside. Or you can cross the river over to the west and walk the coastal path above Talland Bay.

The cabins and lodges vary in size and sleep 2-8 people. Book with Forest Holidays

*Notes: All prices were checked the week of April 19th for dates in May. Individual Airbnbs set their own cancellation policies, but all properties chosen above have flexible booking terms at the time of checking.
