Lock Edge or Chrome with a Password
Password protection is not an in-built feature in these browsers, but there is a free extension that will help you ensure that no one accesses your open tabs.
Install Extension on Chrome
Step-1: Visit the Google Chrome Web Store and search for the extension Browser Lock. You can also use this link to visit the extension page directly.
Step-2: Click on Add to Chrome.
Step-3: You will see a prompt. Select Add extension.
Step-4: Now, set the password.
Install Extension on Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge and open this link.
- Click on Get.
- Select Add Extension.
- Set Password.
How to Use Extension To Lock Edge or Chrome with a Password
There are two ways you can lock your browser after installing the extension.
Method-1:
- Right-click on a webpage and hover the cursor over Browser Lock I Lock Your Browser.
- Select Lock Browser.
[When you Lock your browser, all your open tabs will close. Don’t worry; you didn’t lose them. Just enter the password, and everything will open again as it was]
Method-2:
- You can also lock your browser by clicking on the extension icon visible next to the address bar on the top right corner.
Important Note: If you can’t see the extension icon for the Browser Lock in Chrome. Don’t worry. It just means that the extension hasn’t been pinned. Click on the jigsaw puzzle sign, locate Browser Lock and click on the pin next to it.
