How to Place Icons in the Middle of the Taskbar Without Upgrading to Windows 11

Place Icons in the Middle

Windows 10 is pretty customizable, and many of us don’t even realize it. Users, however, don’t particularly enjoy the placement of the taskbar, app icons, and the search box. GT members often keep app icons in the middle of the desktop taskbar, and it seems that Microsoft took the hint. In the upcoming Windows 11 OS, the app icons and the Windows button will no longer be on the left. If you are excited about this, you can apply this to Windows 10 as well. In this tutorial, I will show you how to place icons in the middle of the taskbar on Windows 10 computers.

Place Icons in the Middle

There are two ways that you can change the position of the icons on the taskbar. You can use the taskbar settings, or you can use a third-party app to do this.

Taskbar Settings

Step-1: Right-click on the taskbar. (Don’t click on any icon; click where there is empty space.

Step-2: If there is a tick sign next to the Lock the taskbar, click on it to remove the tick sign and disable this option.

Step-3: Right-click on the taskbar again and hover your cursor over Toolbars.

Step-4: Click on Links to enable the option. (A tick sign shows that it has been enabled)

Step-5: Once you do, Links will appear on the taskbar. Drag it from the right side of the taskbar to the left.

Step-6: Once you do, the icons will be pushed to the left. You can adjust this position by click on the two vertical lines next to the app icons. Bring the icons to the center.

Lock Taskbar
Step-7: Right-click on the taskbar again and click on Lock the taskbar to enable this option (tick sign will appear). Once you lock the taskbar, the vertical lines you used to adjust the app placement will disappear.

Step-8: I suggest disabling the news widget icons so that you can see a better-centered icon placement on the taskbar.

  •  Right-click on the taskbar.
  •  Hover over News and interests.
  •  Click on Turn off.

Step-9: You can also off the Cortana icon, which hardly anyone ever uses. This will also give you better mid-taskbar icon placement.

  •  Right-click on the taskbar.
  •  Click on the Show Cortana button to disable it (the tick will disappear when disabled).

This is what the final product looks like:

Third-Party Apps

Various taskbar configuration apps will give you more control over the icons.

  1.  You can download TaskbarX, which is a paid app and is available on the Microsoft Store. This app will give you lots of options like getting multiple taskbars, vertical taskbar, centered apps, animations, and more,
  2.  TaskDock is a free app, and you can use it to customize the taskbar. It does not have the bells and whistles that TaskbarX offers, but it gets the job done.

Hopefully, one of these methods will help you get mid-positioned taskbar icons.
