Thymesia can be challenging and unforgiving, even for experienced players. This game will probably give you a hard time right from the beginning because you need to become familiar with the game mechanics, but most of all, because you will meet the first real boss, Odur.
This enemy moves quickly, has fast attacks, can hit you from a distance, and has two combat phases. If you have not paid enough attention to the game’s interface and think that once you’ve beaten it for the first time, you’re done, you will be instantly proven wrong. Odur’s health bar will replenish, and the boss will become even more aggressive.
You need to study his devastating moves carefully, trying to keep a safe distance and deflecting them when he approaches, but it won’t be an easy job. Luckily, we have already done the hard work, so here’s our guide for defeating Odur in Thymesia.
Odur the Ringmaster: Boss Overview
Odur’s attacks are insanely fast and deal a lot of damage. He is equipped with a cane sword and a deck of cards that he throws at you from a distance. He also relies heavily on his kicks, which can hit you in no time. This boss fight develops in two phases, with the second being much more challenging than the first.
Odur Boss Fight: Moveset and Strategies
One of the most common attacks performed by Odur is the one with its cane sword, which he will swing two times towards you and then aim to stab you with. You can deflect or dodge it twice (make sure you have unlocked the Short Dodge talent before starting the fight), but parrying its moves will make it easier for you to counter attacks. He also lands powerful kicks in rapid succession, holding his hat with one hand. If you successfully dodge them, the boss will be vulnerable for a short time, so you will have time to damage him.
When his health bar is near 60% or so in the first phase, he will move backward and start throwing cards at you. You can easily dodge them once you learn his timings and start moving towards him so you can perform fast Saber attacks or damage him with your equipped Plague Weapon. We recommend you use the Hammer since it deals good damage and wounds, or the Halberd, which will land three consecutive jabs. If you have already unlocked the Plague Weapon Lv2 talent, you can use two Plague Weapons during the fight, alternating them based on the situation.
After successfully defeating Odur in the first phase of the fight, you will face him again in the second, tougher phase. His attacks will be faster, and he will frequently perform a five-hit combo, which will enormously damage you if you don’t successfully deflect his moves. However, if you succeed, you will have the time to attack him as he will stop and recover for a few seconds. During this phase, Odur will also perform his ultimate attack, which cannot be deflected nor dodged. As soon as you see a red line coming from him, try to get as far as possible from the Ringmaster. If you get caught, you will take a lot of damage from that, and if you don’t have more than half of your health bar filled up, you will die. Keep your distance anyway, as even if you don’t get caught by his ultimate attack, it will end with an explosion that covers a vast portion of the battleground.
Tips For Winning The Fight Against Odur
Whenever you see an open spot, perform fast Saber attack combos so you will slowly but inevitably take away his white health. After that, you must use your Claw to damage your enemy’s wounds and decrease his green health bar, as well. As for Plague Weapons, you’d either equip the Hammer or the Halberd (or both, if you have unlocked the Plague Weapons Lv2 talent) and use them whenever possible. Ensure you know how to effectively deflect enemy attacks before starting the boss fight. If not, you should practice in the nearby area until you feel confident enough.
If you feel too vulnerable and want to unlock other talents first, take your time to farm Memory Shards in the Sea of Trees and start the boss fight when ready. The enemies near the last Beacon of this level will grant you about 1000 memories in a few minutes each time you complete your route.
