Samsung UE55AU7100KXXU (typical price, £550)

undefined
  • 55-inch 4K TV
  • LCD display
  • Supports HDR10, HLG HDR and HDR10+ formats

We like: Easy to use

We don't like: Sound can be thin

This 55-inch 4K set has both Freeview and Freesat receivers, so can be used with an aerial or satellite dish.

Before the sales you'd expect to pay around £550 for this telly.

Take a look at our Samsung UE55AU7100KXXU review to find out how it did in our test lab.

Sony XR-55A80J – was £1,299

Sony XR-55A80J

We liked: Easy to use, offers plenty of detail

We didn’t like: Colours and contrast at lower resolutions could be better

John Lewis is offering this 55-inch 4K OLED at a discount for Black Friday. It has four HDMI inputs, three USB ports and Freeview and satellite tuners.

This Sony model is powered by the Google TV operating system, meaning you can pick which streaming apps and TV channels appear on your home screen. Google Assistant is the go-to voice control and you can control several aspects of the TV through the microphone in the remote.

See how this TV compares to its rivals with our Sony XR-55A80J review.

LG OLED55A26LA (original price, £1,499)

LG OLED55A26LA TV
  • 55-inch 4K TV
  • OLED display
  • Supports HDR10 and HLG HDR formats

We like: Superb sound quality

We don't like: Tricky to navigate menus

This 55-inch TV is one of LG's most basic models, but with 4K resolution and built in smart functionality, as well as advanced HDR formats Dolby Vision and Dolby Vision IQ which adjust the contrast to suit each scene, it still has plenty of features.

John Lewis' sale price on this model might not be the absolute lowest out there, but some customers will find that paying that bit extra is worth it for the excellent after-sales service John Lewis offers on delivery and returns.

Take a look at our LG OLED55A26LA review to find out how it did in our test lab.

Best John Lewis washing machine deals

AEG 8000 L8FC8432BI (original price, £969)

AEG 8000 L8FC8432BI

We like: How quiet this machine is

We don't like: The narrow door opening

This 8kg capacity integrated washing machine is designed to blend your detergent and softener with water before it enters the drum, in the aim of reducing washing times and taking better care of your clothes.

It also has nifty extra features, like automatically adjusting its wash cycle based on weight, and a setting to steam your clothes so they're easier to iron afterwards.

Take a look at our AEG L8FC8432BI review to find out how it did in our washing tests.

We don't like: The final spin is noisy

Best John Lewis laptop deals

Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 15-inch (original price, £1,460)

15-inch Microsoft Surface Laptop 4
  • 15-inch screen
  • Touchscreen
  • Eight-core AMD Ryzen 7 processor, 8GB of RAM
  • 512 GB storage

We like: The colour-accurate screen

We don't like: Not enough ports

This laptop sports a large, high resolution 15-inch touchscreen. It's a premium model which commands a premium price, and Microsoft claim not just fantastically powerful performance, but an impressive battery life of over 17 hours.

We took a look at the 256GB storage model in our Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 15-inch review.

Buy it now for £1,179 from John Lewis.

HP Pavilion Aero 13-be0030na deal, typical price £799

HP Pavilion Aero 13-be0030na
  • 13.3-inch screen
  • AMD Ryzen 7 processor
  • 512GB SSD

We like: Great-looking screen

We don't like: Disappointing speakers in our tests

Be aware that we tested the 8GB Ram version of this model, whereas this deal provides you with 16GB Ram. The model we tested was powerful enough for intensive everyday use.

This HP laptop is extremely light and portable, weighing less than 1kg, so is ideal if you need to regularly take your laptop out and about. It also supports Wi-Fi 6 connections.

The speakers left much to be desired. In our tests music sounded artificially processed, shrill and swampy and spoken content sounded somewhat muffled. A good set of headphones will help.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 13.5" (typical price, £1,299)

Microsoft Surface Laptop 4
  • 13.5-inch screen
  • 8GB Ram
  • 256GB storage

We like: Impressive speakers

We don't like: Poor webcam and lack of ports

We found the Microsoft Surface 4 to be extremely portable, with its thin case and lightweight of 1.27Kg. It features Microsoft's facial recognition system for a speedy extra layer of security.

While we thought the speakers were very good, the screen was quite reflective. Plus this laptop lacks ports compared to its competitors - you only get a USB-C, headphone jack and a magnetic Surface Connect port. You can buy a dock that adds extra ports and connects to the Surface Connect port, and still lets you charge.

Best John Lewis iPad and tablet deals

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ deal, (typical price £879)

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ tablet with stylus underneath
  • Huge 12.4-inch screen
  • Comes with a stylus
  • Mid-sized model in between the S8 and S8 Ultra

We like: Excellent speakers

We didn't like: So-so battery

Incredibly, this 12.4-inch tablet isn't the biggest in the S8 range. The S8 Ultra takes that crown, but the S8+ is still big and a keyboard is a good idea to make the most of the screen. It comes with a stylus though and it runs quickly.

It's not perfect though, read our Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ review to see if it's the tablet for you.

You can buy it from John Lewis for £749.

Amazon Fire HD 10 – was £149.99

Amazon Fire HD10 (2021) tablet

This is the 2021 version of Amazon’s Fire HD 10 tablet, which features a 10-inch screen and is powered by an Octa-core processor. It has 3GB of Ram and is advertised with 32GB of storage, although after setup you’ll be left with around 23GB.

If you’re looking for a low-cost tablet, a Black Friday discount means the Fire HD 10 is the cheapest it has ever been directly through Amazon.

To see if this is one of the best affordable tablets, check in with our Amazon Fire HD 10 review.

Amazon Echo Show 5 (2nd gen) – was £74.99

Amazon Echo Show 5 (2nd gen)

We liked: Responsive touchscreen, display is sharp, voice control works well

We didn’t like: Small screen can be fiddly to use at times

If you’re shopping for a mini smart display, take a closer look at the discounted Echo Show 5. The Alexa-enabled gadget has a 5.5-inch touchscreen that lets you stream video or check the weather for the afternoon ahead. A front-facing camera (with privacy shutter) allows you to make video calls.

Music fans can have the Echo Show 5 function as a wireless speaker simply by connecting to audio streaming services including Spotify and Audible. Our pricing research shows that the Echo Show 5 has never been cheaper directly through Amazon.

To see how this speaker fared in our test lab, consult our Amazon Echo Show 5 (2nd Gen) review.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 2021, typical price £219

  • 10.5-inch screen
  • USB-C charging
  • Runs the Android operating system

We like: Responsive touch screen

We don't like: Not much battery after a quick 30 min charge

The A8 is from the lower end of Samsung's range, but the 1,200 x 1,920 pixel display should make it an ideal choice for Full HD videos on Netflix and YouTube (minus the 4K content improvements).

It comes with a small 32GB hard drive that you can expand if you add a micro-SD card. A quick charge of 30 minutes will give you just over an hour and a quarter of battery life.

Find out if it's the right tablet for you - see our expert Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 review.

Best John Lewis soundbar and speaker deals

Sonos Beam (2nd Gen) – was £408

Sonos Beam (2nd Gen)

We liked: Offers a range of high-end features

We didn’t like: Set up can take some time

This is the second-generation version of Sonos’ Beam sound bar and it aims to give greater ‘height’ by making it appear as though audio is also coming from overhead. You can mount this model to the wall or stand it in front of your TV.

The Sonos Beam (2nd Gen) supports the Alexa and Siri voice assistants, plus there are some physical controls on the top to adjust the volume, play/pause music, skip to next/previous track, activate the voice assistant or group the Beam with other Sonos devices. It’s compatible with Apple AirPlay 2 and has built-in wi-fi.

Best John Lewis headphones deals

Jabra Elite 4 Active, typically £119

  • Truly wireless, in-ear sports headphones
  • Noise cancelling
  • IP57 rating for dust protection and waterproofing

We like: Secure fit

We don't like: Poor call quality in noisy places

These truly wireless in-ear headphones are well-suited to sports with a good range of touch controls and voice assistant compatibility for easy control during your workouts. The earpieces fit tightly and they’re water resistant. Price drops at the moment make them even cheaper to buy.

On the face of it, there's a lot to like, but how do they sound?

Find out in our full Jabra Elite 4 Active review before you buy.

You can buy it from John Lewis for £79.

Sony WF-C500 – was £90, now £49

SonyWF-C500

We liked: Comfortable, good sound quality, easy-to-use app

We didn’t like: Phone call quality isn’t great

A pair of truly wireless headphones that are compatible with gadgets running Apple iOS and Android. These Sony headphones are rated IPX4, which means they’re water resistant, but you shouldn’t get them drenched as the case isn’t water resistant. They come with three pairs of eartips in different sizes to suit your ear size.

Best John Lewis microwave deals

John Lewis JLSMWO09 (typical price, £135)

John Lewis JLSMWO09

We like: Good variety of functions and automatic programs

We don't like: Actually setting said programs can be difficult

Operable with a dial and buttons, this 25-litre microwave is usually on the pricey side when compared to similar products. It can cook food quickly at power levels up to 900 watts, with 10 settings at various wattages.

This Black Friday, we've noticed that most of the microwave 'deals' actually cost more than their typical prices. The JLSMWO09 is one of the only decent deals on a microwave that we've found; you can pick it up from John Lewis, where they've marked it down from £135 to £99.

To see what we thought about this microwave, you can read our full JLSMWO09 review.

Best John Lewis smart home deals

Nest Doorbell (Battery) – was £179.99

We liked: Clear sound, good notifications, solid range of features

We didn’t like: Video quality isn’t the best we’ve seen, no local storage

The battery-powered version of Nest's smart video doorbell. It captures video at 960 x 1,280 pixels and has a fixed view (no panning or zooming). The camera supports motion detection and has an infrared (IR) light for night vision. It’s rated IP54 for dust and splash resistance.

Footage is stored in the cloud and you’ll need to take out a subscription to access anything more than the last three hours of recordings. You can connect the Nest Doorbell to Alexa and Google Assistant-powered smart devices for voice control.
