Which? analysed the number of new deals launching on tech products at John Lewis and Richer Sounds throughout 2023 and found that John Lewis launched more promotions in January than any other month.
Here, we reveal whether the same is true for Richer Sounds, plus the time of year when you're likely to find the most TV deals.

But with the cost of living so high, buying at the right time – as well as from the right retailer – is more important than ever. So we analysed how many deals were launched on tech products every month throughout 2023 to work out when you're most (and least) likely to get a bargain.
There was a real dearth of promotions in the summer: June saw just nine new promotions at Richer Sounds. The deals dropped off in September too, as retailers geared up towards Black Friday.
Unsurprisingly, November (the month of Black Friday) was a bumper month for promotions at both retailers, with 490 promotions starting at Richer Sounds and 421 at John Lewis.
However, for John Lewis shoppers, January was even bigger with 710 new tech deals launching – the vast majority (567) on TVs.

New TV lines are usually released between April and July each year, so you’re likely to spot promotions if you shop in the run-up to spring, as old lines from the previous year are phased out and space is made for new models.
The longest promotion we found at John Lewis was on the 55-inch Samsung QE55LST7TAUXXU TV. For 41 days across January and February you could get a free Samsung soundbar with it.
At Richer Sounds, the longest-running promotion on any product was for 30% off all cables when buying a particular product.

Apple is also popular with shoppers, and is the only other Which? Recommended Provider for tech. It rarely discounts its products, though, even during big sales events like Black Friday, so we didn’t include it in our analysis.

We analysed 4,459 promotions (1,498 at Richer Sounds and 2,961 at John Lewis) across headphones, speakers and televisions in 2023 to find out when you’re most likely to find discounts.
Richer Sounds doesn’t stock every type of tech product, so we didn’t include items such as laptops, tablets or wearables.
We based our findings on the number of promotions that started each month. Those that ran longer weren’t included in our count for future months.
