Guinness recalls alcohol-free stout over contamination fears

Guinness is recalling cans of its alcohol-free Guinness 0.0 stout in the UK due to a microbiological contamination which may make affected cans unsafe to drink.

In a press statement Guinness did not elaborate on the nature of the contamination, and referred to the recall as a ‘precautionary measure’.

The alcohol-free Guinness was launched only two weeks ago. Here’s what we thought when we blind tasted Guinness 0.0.

Which Guinness drinks have been affected?

A four pack of Guinness 0.0 cans

Guinness has clarified that the only affected drinks are cans of the recently-launched Guinness 0.0 alcohol-free stout. None of Guinness’ other drinks are affected.

Guinness has not elaborated on what the microbiological contaminant affecting Guinness 0.0 is at the time of publishing.

Guinness 0.0 has been available to purchase from Waitrose, Morrisons and off-licences since 26 October 2020. Guinness says it is working with supermarkets and other retailers to remove all stock from shelves and to contact consumers about the recall.

Production of Guinness 0.0 has stopped while the contamination is investigated.

Affected products listed above correct as of 11 November 2020.
