In the world of pushchairs, 2020 has been the year of reinvention. Big name brands such as Bugaboo, Silver Cross, Cybex and Maxi Cosi have all released updated versions of some of their best-selling buggies.
This means you could start seeing some decent discounts on the previous versions of these pushchairs as retailers look to shift stock, particularly in the run-up to Black Friday and the pre-Christmas and New Year sales.
Read our rundown of some of the pushchairs we expect or hope to see discounted and check out our pushchair reviews to make sure you pick a high-scoring buggy.
Bugaboo Bee 5
The Bee 5 was tested in 2017, and the new version – the Bugaboo Bee 6 – is already out in the shops. Both versions are shown side-by-side in the main image of this news story.
Updates include larger wheels, a new rotating bumper bar, different seat fabric, an updated hood with a peek-a-boo window and ventilation panel, and changes to the carrycot.
We’ve already spotted discounts on the Bee 5 from retailers. It’s reduced from £639 to £479.25 at Mamas & Papas, but is even cheaper at NaturalBabyShower.co.uk where the same package (chassis, seat and hood) is reduced from £549 to £411.75.
The Bugaboo Bee 6 is currently in our lab being tested so look out for the full review before the end of this year. Until then, read our review of the Bugaboo Bee 5 to find out how it scored in our tough tests.
Maxi Cosi Adorra
We tested the Maxi Cosi Adorra in 2018 and it impressed our parent tester panel.
The Maxi Cosi Adorra 2 is due to be released in the next month or two, so we’re hoping to see discounts on the original.
Updates to the new version will include breathable mesh fabric on the seat for temperature regulation, an increased shopping basket capacity (from 2kg to 5kg) and changes to the hood and harness.
The 2018 Adorra usually retails for £429, but we’ve seen it on offer at Kiddies-Kingdom.com for £275, saving you £154. Read our review of the Maxi Cosi Adorra to see if this deal is worth taking advantage of.
Silver Cross Pioneer
Silver Cross is relaunching lots of their popular pushchairs as 2020 versions, including the Wave 2020, Pioneer 2020 and Wayfarer 2020.
We’ve just tested the Silver Cross Pioneer 2020, which sees updates to the wheels, tyres, calf support and weight.
You may spot the older version of the Pioneer discounted on independent nursery retailer sites – we found a deal on Lestersnurseryworld.co.uk where it’s reduced from £845 to £549 and it includes a carrycot, hood and apron pack, raincover, cup holder and car seat adaptors.
Read our review of the Silver Cross Pioneer to find out how it scored in our tests and how easy it is to use.
Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double
Believe it or not, we tested the original City Mini GT Double in 2012, and yet it’s proved to be a constant favourite on the Which? website, frequently appearing in our top 10 most popular double pushchair reviews, which are based on website traffic.
But this may not be for long as Baby Jogger launched the City Mini GT Double 2 in October of this year, and we’ve got it lined up for our lab testing imminently.
The new version will now have a 22kg weight capacity, an adjustable foot rest and an updated design, and will be car seat compatible.
Look out for discounting on the older version of the City Mini GT – we haven’t spotted anything yet, but we’ll update this story as soon as we do – and until then you can read the City Mini GT double review by clicking the link.
Maxi Cosi Zelia
The Maxi Cosi Zelia has been updated this year and is about to hit the shops. The Zelia 2 now takes 22kg (increased from 15kg) while the basket now has a 5kg weight capacity (increased from 2kg).
The original Zelia has some excellent features, including a seat unit that can convert to a carrycot so it’s suitable from birth and it’s travel system-compatible so you can attach a car seat.
We’ve spotted the original Zelia reduced by £100 to £199 on Kiddies-kingdom.com. Read our review of the Maxi Cosi Zelia to find out if this deal is worth a look.
Are Black Friday baby deals worth it?
Kitting out your home for a baby can be eye-wateringly expensive, so it’s always worth shopping around for the best possible deal.
While retailers could release a whole raft of special offers and discounts in the run-up to Black Friday, not all Black Friday deals are truly good value as some products are on sale throughout the year.
Bear in mind that whatever you purchase, it’s important to check the product offers the right features for you. It won’t matter how much money you’ve saved in a Black Friday deal if you could have actually bought something that’s cheaper and works more efficiently.
That’s why it’s always worth reading our pushchair reviews and comparing the test results to make sure you spend your money wisely.
Look out for our Best Black Friday baby and child deals story, which we’ll be publishing very soon.
